At least 13 people were killed and 16 injured when gunmen burst into a birthday party in Ciudad Juarez on the Mexican U.S. border, officials said.
The incident occurred about 01.30 am (06.30 GMT) at a home located in a middle class neighborhood.
According to eyewitnesses, an armed group composed of over 20 people and seven vehicles went into the house and began shooting.
The wounded were taken in private cars to a nearby medical center. According to hospital sources, two of the dead were adults and other teenagers.
The condition of some of the injured is serious and some of them will not survive, hospital sources said.
This is the bloodiest incident that has occurred so far this year in the city, considered the most violent in Mexico and famous of frequent actions of organized crime.
According to some statistics more than 200 deaths occurred in Ciudad Juarez out of 800 registered around the country.
In 2009, the city was the scene of the 2632 killings, just over a third of the country’s total, which amounted to about 7,700.
Ciudad Juarez is patrolled by thousands of soldiers and police since last year, but this has not helped decrease the violence.
